Here it is...
It’s been a busy couple weeks, sorry for the delay in blogging about council lately. The last meeting blog I wrote was Mid February, I thought I’d give you a glimpse into my life on council the last few weeks so you know why I’m a little slow this time. Since January 30th, here’s what I’ve been involved in, over and above my Real Estate “Hobby” and family…
Attended the Troy Beaumont Cancer Center Grand Opening
Attended Festa Sant’ Agata dinner at San Marino Club
Attended 4 budget prep meetings outside of regular council meetings
Attended 4 council meetings
Attended 2 Retirement Board meetings
Attended the Liquor violation meeting
Attended a “coffee summit” meeting with local “activists”
Attended the retirement of Larry Schultz, Troy PD
Attended the Grand Opening for the new Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce Office
Attended Taste of Troy
Attended the Troy PD sponsored Active Shooter training class at Walsh College
Toured Walsh College with City Manager Brian Kischnick
Toured Automation Alley with city Manager Brian Kischnick
Toured “Toggled”, a manufacturing facility in Troy with City Manager Brian Kischnick
Toured Altair with Brian Kischnick
Attended the Mayors dinner that Troy hosts each year for all local Mayors
Attended the Troy Hospitality Committee Mtg
Attended the Grand Opening for Jahzara Saphir Bridal salon at Oakland Mall
And this week, yet to come, is the grand opening for Northwood College, and a Troy Schools breakfast for local Realtors
That’s a lot to squeeze in to 49 days, almost one event every other day. I am happy to be one of the faces of Troy at all these events, but finding balance has been a little difficult this first quarter.
The meeting last night was relatively routine. We heard a report on the transit center… We are very close to a lease agreement with AMTRAK that will ensure all annual maintenance costs are covered. We may have something to look at in the next couple meetings. Construction is well under way, you may want to take a drive by the site one day to see the progress. Expected date to open is about August 5, 2013.
We heard a presentation from the Nature Society, they have been working hard at fund raising to support programs at the facility. It appears they are still seeking some assistance from the City of Troy for their budget this year. We’ll see more about that need as we enter the budget process.
We heard three more liquor violation cases at the meeting last night, we approved two of their licenses for renewal and denied the third one. We approved contracts for mulch installation, and for decal installation on city vehicles.
I have to admit, I’m getting used to meetings filled with basic city business. It’s nice to leave city hall with a sense of accomplishment.
See you next meeting
Dave
