Birmingham and the Troy Transit Center

Is Birmingham in or out? You may recall that the City of Birmingham decided to withdraw from participation in the funding of the construction of the Multi-Modal Transit Center. However, new information came to light at the 3/4/13 Troy City Council meeting indicating that Birmingham is going to the Michigan Department of Transportation for funds to "update its side of the project."

Here's an excerpt from the 3/11/13 Troy-Somerset Gazette...

Councilman Wade Fleming was livid, and frustrated. Not only did Birmingham suddenly want to compete with Troy, he observed, it would have been better to let the original project stand, with a tunnel under the railroad and the whole thing would have cost less. Fleming did want to note, however, that none of the recent changes would cost Troy taxpayers a dime. This is all federal money intended to build railroads.

According to the 3/12/13 Troy Times, "Troy City Manager Brian Kischnick said that Birmingham has presented nothing to the city with regard to acquiring access to the platform."

I can't find any other information on this so I guess we'll have to wait for further updates on what the City of Birmingham is planning.
