It’s a full slate of candidates for the Tuesday, May 7 election to fill the mayoral vacancy created when the Troy electorate voted to recall Mayor Janice Daniels just one year into her four-year term.I came across one error in the article where it states that candidate Dave Elsas is "a member of the church council at Faith Lutheran Church." Mr. Elsas actually attends Lutheran Church of the Master in Troy.
Council chose Councilman Dane Slater to be mayor until the November election, but the state stepped in and demanded a special election. This new election will fill the remainder of the 2-1/2 years now remaining on Daniels’ term. Slater will be among six candidates – all men – to vie for the mayor’s seat.
Those contenders with Mayor Slater include former Oakland County Commissioner and Republican Michigan House member Marty Knollenberg, and four new faces in Troy political circles: Faris Alami, Jon Desjardins, Scott Welborn and David Elsas.
