State Senator John Pappageorge today announced he is endorsing Marty Knollenberg for Troy mayor. Troy is holding a special election on May 7th to replace former Mayor Janice Daniels, who was recalled by Troy voters on November 6, 2012.
"Marty Knollenberg is the experienced, steady leader Troy needs right now. He has an extensive background in the private sector as well as the public sector. He knows what needs to be done to attract job providers to Troy and grow our economy," Pappageorge said. "Additionally, Marty Knollenberg is a unifier who will put an end to the political infighting that has wasted too much time and distracted our local leaders from doing the people’s work."
Pappageorge is a veteran who has been awarded the Distinguished Service Medal, Superior Service Medal, four Legions of Merit, the Bronze Star, nine Air Medals, the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. Pappageorge was elected to the Oakland County Commission in 1989. He was subsequently elected to the State House in 1998 and then to the State Senate in 2006.
"It’s an honor to have the endorsement of Senator Pappageorge," Knollenberg said. "His support encourages me to continue working hard every day to help unite Troy and bring the city together. I look forward to working with him as our next mayor."
