At the Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs Summer Leadership Conference on
August 23, 2012, Troy Fire Chief William (Bill) Nelson was recognized as the
Michigan Fire Chief of the Year based on his many contributions and accomplishments to the fire service during his career. At the 9/10/12 Troy City Council meeting, Chief Nelson was recognized for this well-deserved honor. A few individuals have raised concerns (check out
Hail to the Chief) about the way in which Chief Nelson was recognized for this achievement by Troy Mayor Daniels and/or the City Council. I'm sure Chief Nelson does not want to be the center of a political controversy and hopefully the Mayor and Council made an honest mistake.
Well, we can thank Troy's State Representative Marty Knollenberg for making sure that the Chief received recognition for the honor from the Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs. According to an
article in Troy Patch, Knollenberg invited Chief Nelson and Chief Nelson's wife, Doris, to be his guests at a Michigan House of Representatives 9/11/12 ceremony honoring first responders and members of the military from Michigan who died in the line of duty in 2011-12.
Well done Marty and congratulations Bill!
