Mary Ellyn and I often feel like lonely conservatives because we are supportive of public transit. As parents of a child who does not drive an automobile due to a disability, we see on a daily basis why there is a strong need for this form of transportation.
Well, now I've found some other conservatives out there who are also supportive of public transit.
William Lind and the late Paul Weyrich compiled a collection of studies advocating public transit as an essential part of the conservative agenda. Why? Because public transit "enhances national security, promotes economic development, helps maintain conservative values including a sense of community, and provides welfare recipients with access to jobs."
