4/25/12 Troy City Council to Discuss Acting City Manager Candidates

According to TroyPatch, the Troy City Council will meet today at 5 pm to "discuss and possibly select an acting city manager while also considering search criteria and methodology for a permanent replacement."

In the article, TroyPatch editor Jen Anesi states that current City Manager John Szerlag has provided City Council with the names of three individuals that he believes are qualified to serve as Acting City Manager. Szerlag also gave City Council a list of potential interim city managers from the Michigan Municipal League website.

While all three individuals named by Szerlag are qualified, I would encourage City Council to give preference to Mark Miller, the current Director of Economic and Community Development for the City. Mark has an extensive background in planning and his current economic development responsibilities gives him insight into the important role that job providers play in our community.

My endorsement of Mark Miller has probably just sunk his chances at the appointment. Sorry about that Mark.

4/25/12 7:30 PM UPDATE: Via TroyPatch... Troy City Council did not appoint an interim city manager at Wednesday's meeting and voted instead to meet again at 6 p.m. Monday to interview candidates Gary Shripka and Mike Culpepper. Council also asked for proposals from several firms that would help locate the next long-term city manager. Former Troy City Manager Frank Gerstenecker also volunteered to help with the search.
