SOAR Study Skills

Study skills -- not all students develop them independently.   It can be a constant challenge to develop and then use them.  This year we are helping Alex in very concrete ways learn specific study skills.  He is one of those students who needs a little extra scaffolding in high school when it comes to studying. (I suspect he's not alone!)

We discovered the SOAR Study Skills System.  It's useful for anyone, not just students in formal school.

S -- Set Goals
O -- Organize
A -- Ask Questions
R -- Record Your Progress

We set him up with ONE binder.  It's divided into sections for each class that he has.  All papers live in the binder and hopefully they don't get lost in the backpack, the locker or books.  After several weeks of school he is developing a good habit.  The binder goes lives in his backpack which goes to every class and comes home every night.

The SOAR Study Skills System was developed by Susan Kruger (from Lake Orion).  For more information, click here.
