The voters have spoken in favor of the dedicated millage for the Library. As I said earlier today in a post on the Oakland Press Facebook page, most Troy voters love the library but distrust government at all levels. Whichever feeling is uppermost in the mind of the voter when he/she enters the polling place will probably determine the outcome.
With this contest over, I guess my next step is to offer my volunteer services to the Friends of the Troy Public Library (that's assuming they want my help).
It is really too bad the voters who voted YES did not examine ALL the facts and vote based upon them. There is no way the City Council could have locked the doors of the Library without having a major legal action placed against them. I think there might be a legal route for those citizens who voted NO to "opt-out" of paying the tax.
ReplyDeleteBased on his endorsement, I'm assuming Dave voted yes and I don't think someone of his philosophical persuasion voted for any tax hike without first trying to find every reason not to. And I'm pretty sure there is no law on the books that requires a city to maintain a library. But good luck with your legal battle not to pay that extra $70 or so a year Mike. I hope your lawyer works really cheap!
