How to Save Money for Local Governments

From the Grand Rapids Press...

With the state facing a $1.6 billion budget shortfall for next year — a huge figure when you consider that the portion of money under legislative control this year is only about
$8 billion — government officials need to find savings.


That need is evident from the Lansing statehouse to the most humble township hall.
However, townships and cities need help from the Capitol’s captains to accomplish that goal. In fact, Lansing will owe local governments assistance, since it’s a pretty fair bet lawmakers will again put on the budget chopping block state revenue sharing to those communities.


One key place to look for savings: Greater cooperation among cities and townships.
