Cell Towers and Capacity

The Troy Board of Zoning Appeals is dealing with a proposed cell tower near the corner of John R and Square Lake.  Today I found an interesting article in the Wall Street Journal on wireless carriers running out of "capacity."

The article states that:

The reality is that the demand for mobile broadband is exploding, thanks to the popularity of the iPhone and rivals like the Palm Pre, the Blackberry and Verizon's Droid. According to the Federal Communications Commission, the use of smart phones has grown by nearly 700% the past four years, and mobile data are increasing at a projected rate of 130% annually as more people use their phones to send photos and watch videos.

    What alot of people don't know is that:

    1. Cellular Companies are still consolidating at a pretty alarming rate. What once was 200 companies, nationally, now is 4-5 players. (2 of which who are in financial trouble right now)

    2. The Government sold the wireless companies the old analog TV signal. This signal (700 MHZ) is soon going to allow them to package more data, send their signal greater distances, and decommissions 1000's of cellular antenna sites. Data packages are going be transmitted on this new signal.

    in the military cell phones towers r use 2 control moods,google,have extra mic's and cams,,with the extra tall cell tower at 19 and I-75 can watch TROY better, you can delete of NOT,,But TROY area commands most of the Detroit SKIEs..Lazar's from that spot can reach most areas..one reason..the TOP of TROY Building was built...if TROY was a REAL city,,instead of the super-rich's PIGGY bank..The cell phone towers would lqqk like TREES,as other citires..one over by I-275.

    Marv...The cell tower proposed for the corner of Square Lake and John R is (currently) going to look like a tree. Of course, the Troy BZA may vote against the "tree" concept. I'll keep your suggestion in mind when we vote on this in January.

    if the CELL tower is all PROFIT..making it a TREE,,will increase the value of any lqqking at it,,OPPs.PROGRAM de-Valueation TAKEs planning,and the GLENMORE ESTATE's,no SIDEWALKs,,narrow streets,and the POLLUTED water in the ground is getting worse,once the eltie..NOW..programed 2 be..DE-Valued..great..but all cell phones towers should LIKE TREEs,.TROY's MOTTo//..POLLUTION 1st//Business 2nd,,and WHAT r PEOPLe?
